This article covers the setup of a Netopia Router on the Bellsouth Fast Access DSL Network. This assumes that you already have your IP address settings from Bellsouth and it is at its factory default settings. You will also need your fast access user name and password.
- Connect the Netopia Router/Modem directly to your server.
- Complete an IP Renewal using a command prompt using ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. ( Your IP Address should be in the range of 192.168.1.X)
- Open up your web browser and go to http://192.168.1.254
- Enter Your Username and Password and Connect
- You must enter the user name as: username@bellsouth.net
- The password is typically the 7 digit DSL phone number
- Once the setup is completed you will need to enter 'Expert Mode'
- Once in Expert Mode click 'Configure'
- Click the 'WAN' link
- Click 'PPP Over Ethernet'
- Remove Check on NAT
- Click Submit
- Click the 'LAN' link
- Replace the 192.168.1.254 with your LAN IP Address (This is typically the 2nd Number in your IP Range)
- Replace the 255.255.255.0 Netmask with the Netmask provided by Bellsouth
- Click Submit
- Click the 'DHCP Server' link
- Enter the Starting IP (Usually the 3rd number of the IP block)
- Enter the Ending IP (Usually the last number of the IP block)
- Click Submit
- Click Security
- Click Stateful Insp
- Click on Exposed Addresses
- Click Add
- Enter the beginning IP Address (This will be the First IP Address in your range)
- Enter the last IP Address (This will be the Last IP Address in your range)
- Click Submit
- Click on the yellow ! at the Top Right of the screen
- Click 'Save and Restart'
Congratulations, your Netopia Router is now setup!
Now you will need to setup your Zywall, Linksys,D-Link or SMC Router to accept the new ip addresses.
